Es ist die größte Mordserie in der bundesdeutschen Nachkriegsgeschichte: Der Krankenpfleger Niels Högel tötete mindestens 85 Menschen in Krankenhäusern in Oldenburg und Delmenhorst. Die Ermittler gehen allerdings davon aus, dass es viele weitere Fälle geben könnte. 2019 verurteilte das Landgericht Oldenburg Högel zu einer lebenslangen Freiheitsstrafe, unter Feststellung der besonderen Schwere der Schuld.
